Call for Proposals - DEADLINE December 12, 2014

The purpose of the Autism and Arts Education Symposium is to feature research, practice and showcase in the arts and autism. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together researchers, teachers, practitioners, support professionals and parents who specialize in arts education for children with autism with the purpose of sharing ideas and learning more about the benefits of the arts for children with autism.

GENERAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION

The Autism and Arts Education Symposium encourages proposals from researchers and practitioners who are involved with, or focus on arts education within the autism community.

Proposals require both a description of no more than 500 words describing your project and an abstract of no more than 100 words. Incomplete submissions will not be considered for acceptance. 

Proposals will be considered for presentation at one of symposium sessions and/or presentation at the poster session. Sessions are 50 minutes in length. When submitting your proposal, indicate session types for which you would like your proposal to be considered.

Proposal types

There are three types of 50-minute proposals that are being accepted for the Autism and Arts Education Symposium:
  1. Research presentation (50-minutes)
  2. Practice session 
  3. Research poster

RESEARCH PRESENTATION
Presentation of original research related to arts education and autism. Research can be either quantitative or qualitative in nature. Research that is in-progress will be review, but the research needs to be completed by the symposium. Research presentations are 50 minutes in length. 

PRACTICE SESSION
Sessions presented by practitioners, teachers and support professionals who are very familiar with autism and the arts. Sessions may be grounded in research, but should provide helpful strategies and ideas for those in attendance. Research presentations are 50 minutes in length. 

RESEARCH POSTER
Research posters can be of completed or on-going research at the professional or graduate level. Research can be either quantitative or qualitative in nature. Research posters will be presented at one large session where attendees can interact with research poster presenters. 

SUBMISSION

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
  • Proposal description (not to exceed 500 words)
  • Proposal abstract (not to exceed 100 words)
  • References: if there are citations in the description and/or abstract.
  • No identifying author names
  • File can not exceed 20 MB.
  • Proposal file (.pdf, .doc, .docx or .pages) should contain: (1) proposal title, (2) proposal description and  (3) proposal abstract.



SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

  • All proposals must be submitted online using the proposal submission system.
  • Do not include name(s) of author(s) or any other identifying information in the proposal description or proposal abstract.   
  • Submissions for separate sessions should be made separately
  • If accepted for a research presentation or poster session, all abstracts will be posted at the Autism and Arts Education website (autismandarts.org). 
  • All submissions must be received by December 12, 2014. 
  • Notification of acceptance for proposals will be made by Jan. 2, 2015.
